Outerwear is...anything you'd wear as your "outermost" layer when going "out"side! So if you happen to live in Florida, outerwear might be a heavy shirt while those fellas from Montana require down and then some.

Outerwear today does NOT have to be bulky and, in fact, should be more fitted and contoured. Given the formal suit blazer has gone the way of the Samurai in recent years, you can also consider that when finding that winter cashmere coat.
