Jeans for 3 Winters
The easy answer for how to pick jeans for winters is Just Say No, because no matter how saturated and crisp they start out, they will fade over time and faded jeans will not be the best pick for any winter, but since jeans are here to stay and winters also have a need for casual clothing, here is my pick for the 3 winters. I have included a lot of very dark jeans in this catalogue, because of the great potential for high contrast outfits it creates for the three winters, who thrive on contrast.

C: Again, this looks really close to the darker choices you suggested for BrSpring. What am I not seeing?

I have no clue, Christine. This may be one good example of how difficult this is. Looking at this again I am thinking: why indeed not BSp? It has a greenish tone to the blue, well, so does one of the TW navy choices. Perhaps I was swayed by how nice and deep blue they looked next to that white T-shirt. Put it with a bright BSp coral, and call it BSp., not sure why I did not see that...

If a winter is hankering for traditional bluejeans, this might do the job. Nicely saturated, inky blue, barely a hint of fading. Pair it with a crisp white shirt or tee, and wear it until it fades too much to look nice. Might also be nice for Dark Winter

These are perhaps just as good for a Dark Winter.

Or looking at these again, I might even say they are best for Bright Winter. Something about the clarity of the blue.

TW has navy that is more green and one that is more red. This reads as being on the slightly greener side. Dark jeans like this one are so valuable for all winters because they give the opportunity for high contrast outfits, worn with crisp white T-shirts, or one of the icy light colours, or one of the brighter colours. So, contrast in value and contrast in hus can be achieved.

Too faded? Perhaps. But worn with shiny black shoes like here and a top with enough chroma, why not? True Winter or Bright Winter.

Would this work for BRSpring as well?

Ah, crisp white high waisted jeans for a TW. With a black tank top, and a red bandanna around the neck. Add a pair of black sunglasses and black/white sneakers. How a Winter rocks a summer outfit.

This pair is dark and crisp but the yellow stitching and a slight warmth in the colouring makes me think it belongs beter in Dark Winter, or perhaps even Dark Autumn. Not sure about this one. Christine, what do you think?

Christine: I see them the same way, Jorunn. Where pink-mauve-blue is the umbrella that brings together the Summer closet, and orange/brown the Autumn group, the Winter colours tend be purplish. The blue is dark and quite blue, with a trace of Autumn's warmth. The warm tones are discernible, and they are a muted, earthy orange, not a crayon or candy. Dark Winter and Dark Autumn feel pretty good.

True Winter can handle the maximum contrast. So the darkest possible jeans with one of the clear, cool colours top. A top in the fabulous TW green with this pair of black jeans?

Be still my heart: Waxed charcoal grey jeans! Perfectly off-black for Bright Winter, and shiny! The holy grail of BW jeans, these ones.

Black jeans. Love it. Although it would be even better if the upturned cuff had more contrast with the black of the jeans.

The white stitching does the trick here, a nice contrast that makes it work for BW.

C: Super nice jeans with a fair bit of flash. A great blue that doesn't pull yellow, orange, or pink. Excellent stitching colour, as Jorunn said.

An example of how difficult this is. I put these in here thinking they would be close to the stone colour of DW. Then Christine brought to my attention that when looked at next to the DW colours these jeans kind of dissappear, fade away and makes the bottom half of the body look almost naked. Hm. How true, now that I look at them again. Truth be told, both of us had trouble placing these into any season. Perhaps they would actually be "least offensive" in LSu or even TSu was thrown into the conversations we were having. The jury is still out for now.

Very saturated and not faded. Love these. Christine made the comment that this nice mix of the rustic side of DW in small proportion with an essentially Winter jean. The jean esthetic of copper stitch allows that to sneak in here where it might look odd on a coat.

Could be that this pair belongs in SSu, the more I look at it the more I think there is some softness to it that is not edgy enough for Dark Winter. Too hazy, kind of.

C: These are so similar to the pair in the TW catalog, similar white T-shirt draped over waistband, the model wearing black heels with wide strap over the foot. To decide, I had to open the 2 retail pages side by side. This pair is pinker. I see them easily in Dark Winter and possible for certain Soft Summer looks on a woman with higher natural contrast.

I like the contrasting stitching on this pair.

Christine pointed out the good DW-TW relationship with the shoes in this photo. Yummy.
