What is that Smell

These flip flops are gorgeous in person. The flower detail really makes them special to wear with a cool outfit at night for dinner; I was really looking forward to wearing them on my vacation. The problem is that they smell awful; it's like a chemical smell coming from the material that the flowers are made from. I have sprayed perfume on them twice so far and will keep trying that and hope that it does something because if I close the door to the room that they are in the whole room smells. I'm afraid to put them in my suitcase.
